The comedians in this study, namely Arie Kriting, Ridwan Remin, Wira Nagara, and Babe Cabita, use violations in their performances. The urgency of this research is the need to understand the principles of language and communication, especially Grice's cooperative maxim, which is regularly applied by comedians but is effective in creating humor that is relevant to the social culture of Indonesian society. The purpose of this study is to identify, describe, and analyze violations of four Gricean maxims—quantity, quality, relevance, and implementation—and to analyze the role of violations in their humor. A qualitative approach with descriptive analysis was used. Data in the form of video broadcasts uploaded to YouTube were then transcribed and analyzed using heuristic techniques. The analysis process included identifying setups and punchlines, transforming each violation of Grice's principle, and interpreting the humorous purpose hidden behind the violation. The result is equality in principle violations. Each performance described embodies each of these principles in a different way and with very distinctive characteristics. The dominant violations are violations of the maxim of quality and the principle of relevance, by making explicit claims that are misleading, or constructing a series of statements that are implausible.
Elsara Khairun Nisa, Rustono Rustono, Tommi Yuniawan, Rahayu Pristiwati Copyright (c) 2025 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4872 Mon, 29 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 SUSTAINING CULTURE THROUGH ECOFEMINISM:ARCHETYPAL PORTRAYALS OF SRI, KITRI, DANA, LIYU, AND PUKAH IN CARIYOS DEWI SRI https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4873
The ancient Javanese manuscript Cariyos Dewi Sri weaves ecological wisdom and socio-religious values together through five symbolic agricultural cycles: Sri, Kitri, Dana, Liyu, and Pukah. These cycles, part of pitungan Jawa, guide the optimal timing for planting rice. Instead of representing individual characters, these terms embody philosophical principles that resonate with ecofeminist ideas, linking the well-being of women, community, and the environment. This study explores how these cycles serve as cultural codes that uphold Javanese ecological ethics and agrarian identity. Using a qualitative approach, the research applies an ecofeminist literary criticism framework and symbolic-archetypal analysis. The manuscript was intentionally selected as the primary source, and thematic coding was conducted using NVivo 15 to identify lexical patterns, narrative structures, and symbolic motifs related to ecofeminism and cultural sustainability. The coding process resulted in 152 references across 38 thematic nodes, organized into three main domains: (1) ecological wisdom (42%), (2) gender relations (36%), and (3) spiritual ecology (22%). Lexical queries identified recurring terms associated with nature, such as pari (rice), banyu (water), and bumi (earth), each contextually reflecting the reciprocal relationships between humans and nature. Narrative analysis indicated that “Sri” is dominant within the nurturing-fertility cluster, associated with metaphors of rice abundance and seasonal cycles, accounting for 28% of coded references. “Kitri” aligns with maintaining communal harmony (21%), while “Dana” symbolizes resource sharing during times of scarcity (18%). “Liyu” represents resilience against exploitation (17%), and “Pukah” signifies transformative renewal through environmental restoration (16%). Together, these symbolic cycles articulate a localized form of ecofeminism rooted in Javanese cosmology, where agricultural timekeeping is tightly linked to ethical land stewardship. The findings reveal that Carios Dewi Sri functions both as a repository of ecological knowledge and as a medium for conveying gender-inclusive values that promote environmental sustainability. This highlights the potential of indigenous literary heritage as a culturally grounded platform for contemporary ecological advocacy.
Citra Rizky Lestari, Agus Nuryatin, Mukh Doyin, Yusro Edy Nugroho Copyright (c) 2025 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4873 Mon, 29 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Dorian Gray and the Influence of Lord Henry: A Psychoanalytic Review of Mental Manipulation in The Picture of Dorian Gray https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4874
This study explores Lord Henry's profound influence on Dorian Gray in Oscar Wilde's novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, emphasizing the dynamics of mental manipulation through a psychoanalytic lens. This research aims to analyze how Lord Henry's hedonistic philosophy reshapes Dorian's personality and moral outlook. Utilizing the psychoanalysis of Sigmund Freud, especially the structural theory of the psyche—id, ego, and superego. This study employs text-based qualitative analysis, examining selected excerpts from the novel to uncover character motivations, internal conflicts, and symbolic representations of psychological processes. The results show that Lord Henry awakens and strengthens Dorian's id, driving him to pursue unrestrained pleasure, while the ego serves as a rationalization mechanism to justify his immoral actions. At the same time, Dorian's superego, which initially manifests as guilt and conscience, is increasingly weakened by Henry's persistent influence. This imbalance leads to internal conflict, paranoia, and ultimately self-destruction, reflecting the tragic consequences of uncontrolled external influences on the individual's psyche. The implications of this research emphasize the relevance of psychoanalytic criticism in literary studies, while also providing a critical reflection on the destructive power of hedonistic ideology and mental manipulation in shaping human behavior.
Kuncoro Aang Ifansyah, Zuhrul Anam Copyright (c) 2025 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4874 Mon, 29 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 READER RESPONSE TO SOCIAL INJUSTICE IN GUY DE MAUPASSANT’S THE NECKLACE https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4875
This research explores the response to the issue of social injustice represented in the story The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant. The story illustrates the struggles of the lower middle class and the harsh consequences of social demands. Using reader response theory as the main framework, this study aims to examine how various readers understand and interpret the social injustice represented in the story. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to respondents after reading the text. In this research, social injustice is understood as the unequal distribution of power, which results in systemic disadvantages for certain social groups. Social injustice in this short story is analyzed through the lens of class inequality, gender expectations, and social pressure, all of which shape Mathilde's experiences and choices. This research will prove that reader response analysis not only reveals the diversity of interpretations but also emphasizes the importance of literary works as a reflection and a means to question social injustice.
Mayrisha Rizqi Riftitama, Zuhrul Anam Copyright (c) 2025 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4875 Mon, 29 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 EXPLORATION OF CIRCLE TIME PRACTICE AS A MEANS OF DEVELOPING SPEAKING SKILLS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4876
This study aims to explore the practice of Circle Time as a means of developing speaking skills in elementary school students. Speaking skills are one of the important language competencies that students have in the communication and learning process. The problems that arise in the field show that many students have difficulty expressing ideas orally in a coherent, confident manner, and according to the context. Through the application of Circle Time, speaking activities are systematically designed with a fun, participatory, and focused atmosphere on students' personal experiences. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach supported by simple quantitative data through the results of observations, interviews, and documentation of learning activities at SD Labschool, State University of Semarang. The research subjects consisted of 24 grade IV students. The results showed a significant improvement in students' speaking skills, which was shown by an increase in the average score from 60 on the pre-test to 81 on the post-test. The interactive learning atmosphere, peer support, and teachers' strategies in managing Circle Time sessions have been proven to increase students' courage, fluency, and ability to organize ideas orally. The findings of this study reinforce that Circle Time can be used as an effective learning model for the development of speaking skills in elementary schools. In addition, the application of this method also contributes to the improvement of the social and emotional climate in the classroom.
Nugraheti Sismulyasih Sb, Agus Nuryatin, Teguh Supriyanto, Mukh. Employing a qualitative ecolinguistic discourse analysis, data were drawn from news articles published by Media Indonesia, Republika, and Tempo. The findings reveal a wide range of ecolexical items categorized into six thematic domains: ecosystems and biodiversity, reforestation and conservation, green technology and innovation, participation and collaboration, environmental threats and degradation, and sustainable urbanization and green spatial planning. Each category constructs distinct ideological framings of sustainability, reflecting how language mediates ecological values within public narratives. Media Indonesia predominantly emphasizes biodiversity and urban greening, Tempo highlights technological and policy-oriented narratives, while Republika integrates moral and participatory dimensions. These variations demonstrate that ecolexicon serves not only as linguistic evidence of environmental awareness but also as a pedagogical resource for cultivating critical and ecological literacy. Integrating ecolexicon analysis into Indonesian language instruction can foster students’ capacity to interpret media framing, reflect on sustainability discourses, and connect linguistic learning with environmental consciousness.
Sukarismanti Sukarismanti, Fathur Rokhman, Tommi Yuniawan, Hari Bakti Mardikantoro, Klemens Maksianus Lenga, Samsudin Samsudin Copyright (c) 2025 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4877 Mon, 29 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 CREATIVE EXPRESSION IN THE DIGITAL SPHERE: THE IMPACT OF YOUTUBE FILM REVIEWS ON FILM AUDIENCES https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4878
This study presents an analysis of the impact of YouTube film reviews on Malaysian film audiences. The reciprocal relationship between humans and nature must be continuously preserved because only humans can maintain the existing ecosystem. An understanding of environmental preservation can be gleaned from the folklore found in every region. This is the foundation of a society's civilization. Papuan folklore plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of ownership of the natural environment. This is because Papuan folklore emphasizes compelling life principles regarding the treatment of nature. This study examines the myth in the folktale entitled Kerlonggona, the Sacred Tree from Wamena, as a reflection of ecological wisdom in protecting nature from human greed. This study uses an ecocritical approach to the analysis of Papuan folklore, while the method employed is qualitative content. The results depict the lives of Papuan people who still hold trees sacred as a form of effort to protect their natural environment from irresponsible communities. Their love for nature is shaped by their disdain for customary law and their prioritization of customary law to uphold rules passed down through generations.
Hasrul Rahman, Agus Nuryatin, RM. However, globalization and shifting patterns of children’s entertainment have contributed to the marginalization—and even disappearance—of these traditional games. This article aims to explore the potential of traditional games as narrative material for children's literature as a means to conserve intangible folklore through a literary and cultural literacy approach. Employing a qualitative-descriptive method based on literature review, this study analyzes various traditional Indonesian games—such as engklek, gobak sodor, congklak, and hide-and-seek—and their narrative potential in child-centered fictional stories. The findings indicate that traditional games possess rich narrative and symbolic elements that can be developed into children’s stories with strong educational and cultural value. Incorporating traditional games into children's literature not only reintroduces cultural heritage to younger generations but also reinforces cultural identity and social values such as cooperation, fairness, and perseverance. Thus, children's stories based on traditional games can serve as a creative and sustainable literary strategy for preserving intangible cultural heritage. The article recommends collaboration between writers, educators, and cultural practitioners to produce children’s literary works that are both engaging and effective in cultural conservation.
Mei Fita Asri Untari, Agus Nuryatin, R.M. Situated in the post-reform era of Indonesia, these literary works serve as critical sites where socio-political issues such as colonialism, patriarchy, militarism, and resistance are interrogated and reimagined. By applying Norman Fairclough’s framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the research examines how the novels’ language, narrative structures, and socio-cultural contexts collectively construct and challenge prevailing power dynamics. The analysis reveals that both novels function beyond mere reflection of Indonesia’s socio-political landscape; they actively produce counter-discourses that resist hegemonic ideologies. Through their complex characters and subversive storytelling techniques, the texts question dominant narratives, especially those related to gender inequality and authoritarian control. The findings demonstrate that these works symbolically oppose systemic oppression by highlighting nuanced interactions between resistance and power. Ultimately, this study argues that literature in postcolonial Indonesia plays a vital role as a medium of cultural and political critique. The novels by Kurniawan and Utami exemplify how fiction can articulate forms of resistance that challenge and deconstruct established power structures, thereby contributing meaningfully to ongoing debates about identity, history, and emancipation in Indonesian society.
Suharyo Suharyo, Agus Nuryatin, Subyantoro Subyantoro, Mukh Doyin Copyright (c) 2025 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4882 Mon, 29 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 TRACING FRENCH ALUMNI CAREERS: INSIGHTS FROM UNNES TRACER STUDY https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/4883
This study investigates the role of tracer studies as an evaluative instrument for curriculum development, focusing on alumni of the French Education Department at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES).
