Although plethora of prior studies have been conducted to explore this area, a gap was identified in relation to the scarcity of studies conducted to explore the perceptions of pre-service teachers on how social interaction contributes to their professional identity construction prior to actual on-site teaching practices. Investigating this area is imperative, since the shaped professional identity, at any extent, may influence their teaching practices and professional identity construction. The present study was conducted to address the gap by exploring the roles of social interaction in shaping professional identity of pre-service English teachers prior to their engagement in on-site teaching practices. Nine pre-service English teachers enrolling into English language teacher education program were purposefully selected to participate in the study. Data were collected through one-on-one semi structured interview, conducted prior to the participants' enrolment in a teaching practicum program. Thematic and interpretive analysis were used in the data analysis. The findings revealed that social interactions through observations and discussions contributed to initial professional identity construction of the pre-service teachers. Different actors within and beyond the teacher education context were reported to play distinct roles in shaping professional identity of pre-service English teachers. The implications were discussed to create more meaningful social interaction that can facilitate stronger professional identity construction of pre-service teachers amid their teacher education.
Ika Wahyuni Lestari, Rudi Hartono, Januarius Mujiyanto, Zulfa Sakhiyya Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3622 Wed, 07 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 SELF-REGULATED LEARNING (SRL) STRATEGY INSTRUCTIONS IN ASYNCHRONOUS ONLINE LEARNING https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3624
Teachers have less influence over their students when they learn online, particularly when it comes to making sure the learning experience is of a high calibre. The Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) technique is one way to solve this issue. Because they have been prepared to comprehend what to do in their own learning, this technique helps the students to study independently without requiring a lot of assistance from the teachers. The purpose of this study is to: 1) provide task instructions that will support students' autonomous learning in online learning; and 2) find out what the students think about how SRL affects them. The methodology of research and development is applied. The Likert scale is used to gauge the students' points of view. The outcomes demonstrated the efficacy of the SRL technique in fostering autonomous learning, particularly in situations when online learning is desired. Moreover, most students respond positively to the implementation of SRL strategy in online learning.
Mochamad Rizqi Adhi Pratama, Zulfa Sakhiyya, Seful Bahri, Yuliati Yuliati Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3624 Wed, 07 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 A PRELIMINARY STUDY: STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS OF EFL SPEAKING SKILLS https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3626
Speaking has emerged as a significant issue, particularly among the students at IKIP Siliwangi. Students who are enrolled in English education programs struggle to communicate effectively in the classroom using English. Therefore, the research investigates the students' perceptions of EFL speaking skills. The study utilizes a qualitative method with descriptive qualitative as the research design. The participants consist of 40 students enrolled at one of the universities in Bandung, west Java. The students are currently in their third semester, pursuing a major in the English education study program. Questionnaires, observations, and interviews were used to acquire the data. Questionnaires covered three parts: speaking method, media, and teacher's activities, while the interview was carried out with a total of nine students. Subsequently, the data were analyzed qualitatively. Based on the findings, three things are discussed: The first is that the students prefer interesting topics for presentation when they learn speaking subjects. Interesting topic of presentation can trigger their motivation to talk. The second is the students also like handouts as guidelines for speaking subjects. The last is the teacher, who is expected to be a facilitator and motivator in the classroom. Overall, the students expect that lecturers can help them by providing them with interesting topics and handouts to trigger them to talk about speaking subjects.
Lilis Suryani , Zulfa Sakhiyya , Rahayu Puji Haryanti , Widhiyanto Widhiyanto Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3626 Wed, 07 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 ESP Students’ Learning Efforts in Mastering an English Presentation Skill and Their Self-efficacy https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3628
As communication skills become critical success factors and prominent features of graduates’ global employability, the accounting major students in this study were trained to make English presentations as they took EAP of English for Accounting. The study investigated their learning efforts to master the presentation and their self-efficacy. Sixty-one students were purposively selected for the study. Two specially designed questionnaires were used to collect data: 1) a 14-statement Likert-type learning effort questionnaire and 2) a 24-statement English presentation self-efficacy questionnaire of ‘can do’ scales. The questionnaires were administered as the students were preparing for their final exam. With SPSS software 25, descriptive and correlational analyses were run. The students had a very high learning effort to master the English presentation skills (mean score = 80.311, SD = 11.039), and a high self-efficacy (mean score = 121.85, SD = 19.152). These two variables were positively correlated at a moderate level (r = 0.573). There have been studies investigating TPCK for teachers and candidate teachers. However, very few have explored the issues regarding the importance and ways of candidate teachers exploring their TPCK during teaching practice. The purposes of this study are (1) to explore the importance of TPCK for English education students in their teaching practice and (2) to explain how they integrate TPCK into their teaching. Data were gathered using research techniques such as questionnaires, documentation checklists, and one-on-one interviews. The study reveals that candidate teachers must prepare the TPCK framework before they do the teaching practice. They will get experiences from lecturers and peers exploring their TPCK to their lesson plans and teaching practices. They can integrate the knowledge of technology when delivering material (content knowledge) and explain it using proper teaching methods (pedagogical knowledge). These activities start with deciding learning objectives, designing assessments, and implementing detailed teaching steps. Additionally, it was discovered that when the lecturer inquired about any difficulties they had creating and carrying out a lesson plan based on TPCK, they felt both ashamed and terrified. When they first have conversations with their peers, they are happier. Moreover, lecturers must provide students with more encouragement so that they become better teachers. The study indicates that more investigation is necessary to understand how peers contribute to their learning of TPCK and recommends more studies on peers’ contributions to TPCK.
Yulia Nur Ekawati, Issy Yuliasri, Mursid Saleh, Rahayu Puji Haryanti Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3630 Wed, 07 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 HARMONIZING TECHNOLOGY AND TRADITION: THE IMPACT OF DIGITAL INNOVATION ON CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATION AND PRACTICE https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3632
In the evolving landscape of choral music, integrating traditional education with digital technology such as specific recording apps, interactive online platforms, and AI-driven analytics marks a significant shift. The art of Tutur Tadut is da'wah in nature and used to be presented at the women's recitation gathering in the Besemah area. Until now, the art of Tutur Tadut is still growing and has begun to be presented in entertainment events such as weddings, and aqiqah events. Until now, the art of Tadut has developed to several regions in South Sumatra, one of which is the city of Pagaralam. In Pagaralam City, Tadut is usually performed in wedding entertainment events. The poetry delivered in this Tadut art contains Islamic teachings, such as the pillars of Islam, the pillars of faith, Sufis, the form of Allah, the three sciences, the proposal of love, and self. Indirectly, apart from being entertainment, ta'dut art aims to teach about Islam to its listeners through art. But nowadays, the poems in the art of Tadut not only contain Islamic preaching, but can also be adapted to the context of the event such as in weddings, speakers can provide lyrics related to advice for newlyweds or society in general. At present, the art of takdut has begun to decrease in interest, especially among young people. Related to this, the researchers are interested in describing the existence of takdut speech art in the Semende community in South Sumatra. The method used is descriptive qualitative method. However, in determining the path of national life, an independent country is still distorted by old thinking, namely when it was still in the colonial period. Indonesia, as a country that has become independent from colonialism, has firmly stated that 'independence is the right of all nations and therefore, colonialism in the world must be abolished because it is not by humanity and justice'. This is stated in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. As time passed, the Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning Job Creation was born. Data were analyzed using the intralingual equivalence method to examine linguistic features such as meaning, information, and text. From a forensic linguistics perspective, the relationship between the content of the law and theories related to postcoloniality will be studied. From a legal standpoint, the relationship between the 1945 Constitution as the basis for forming legal regulations in Indonesia and the theory of legal formation in an independent country. The research results found that the postcolonial paradigm is still strong in the content of the articles in the law.
Sutarsih Sutarsih, R. Currently, Wayang is less popular with the younger generation because of its old-fashioned and boring stereotypes. In fact, apart from being entertainment, puppets also have high educational potential. On the other hand, students prefer Japanese-style animation, cartoons, and comics, namely anime, compared to conventional wayang media. Therefore, wayang needs to be transformed into a more futuristic and modern form of anime wayang. This type of research is classified as qualitative descriptive research. The form of data in this research is qualitative data. The final aim of this research is to find various understandings, concepts, ideas, and hypotheses regarding anime wayang as a multiliterate media representation that strengthens the profile of Pancasila students. The literature study method is used to describe qualitative data. Vehicle transfer theory and multiliteracy are used to dissect the data. The research steps are carried out by selecting a topic, data exploration, data collection, and presentation. The results of this research show that anime puppets have entertainment functions, cultural functions, educational functions, and ideological functions. The best way to preserve wayang is to create wayang that is adaptive to technology and developments over time. Conventional puppets need to be converted into anime puppets. This is because many particles, when translated into Indonesian, have the same meaning even though their use is very different in Japanese. This research aims to analyze the misuse patterns of the particles “ni” and “de”, which function as place markers, and what caused them. This research used a qualitative approach on 60 students learning elementary Japanese, consisting of 23 males and 37 females. The data collection technique was a test filling in the correct particles in the blank spaces in sentences. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be seen that (1) learners tend to use the particle “ni” as a place marker, either indicating activity or simply indicating presence; (2) the use of the particle “de” as a marker for the location of activity tends to be more confused with the use of the particle "ni" as a marker for the location of objects or people and animals; (3) whether the particle “ni” or “de” is located at the beginning of a sentence, namely following the first word in the sentence, then students tend to use the particle “wa” (the particle marking the subject/point of the sentence), because the first word is considered the subject or main sentence; (4) If the particle “ni” or “de” is located at the end before the predicate in the sentence, then students tend to use the particle “o/wo” (object marking particle), because the previous word is considered the object of the sentence. The causes of errors found were the influence of the mother tongue, overgeneralization, and fossilization.
Ai Sumirah Setiawati, Fathur Rokhman, Ida Zulaeha, Rina Supriatnaningsih Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3658 Wed, 07 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 AN ANALYSIS OF CLASSROOM INTERACTION IN ENGLISH TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS USING PROBLEM BASED LEARNING APPROACH https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3660
This article aims at analysing the interaction built by teacher and students in classroom teaching and learning activities by using problem based learning approach. The research was conducted at the tenth grade students of state vocational high school 4 Kalabahi, East Nusa Tenggara handled by one of English teacher when she took the apprenticeship program in the in-service teacher of Teacher Professional Education Program at Universitas Pancasakti Tegal. The writer used case study design and descriptive qualitative as the research approach. Flander’s Interaction Analysis Category System (FIACS) is used to analyse the classroom interaction by doing several stages; (1). Transcribing and coding the interactions, (2). Categorizing the interactions, (3). Calculating the frequency of interaction for the categories, and (4). Comparing the frequency of teacher and students’ talk. The result of analysis shows that the interactions happened in all interaction categories, except for the silence or confusion category. The frequency of teacher’s talk dominates the whole classroom interaction with 61.5%, meanwhile the students’ talk takes 38.5%. In conclusion, the teacher still takes much role in handling the class. Therefore, it is recommended for the teacher to give more chances for students to get involved in the classroom interactions for creating the students-centred learning atmosphere as the main characteristic of implementing problem based learning approach.
Sumartono Sumartono, Sri Wuli Fitriati, Sri Wahyuni, Zulfa Sakhiyya Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3660 Wed, 07 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 GENSHIN IMPACT GAMES AND ITS POSSIBILITY TO BE USED AS ONE OF TEACHING MEDIA IN TEACHING VOCABULARY https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3663
The purpose of the study is to analyzed the possibility of using Genshin Impact game as teaching media in teaching vocabulary. The form of Jonggan performance showcases a blend of music, dance, and entertaining pantun. With advanced rapid technologies, the role and presence of musicians in these performances have diminished. Recent Jonggan performances have undergone notable changes, including (1) dance movements, (2) costumes, (3) the presence of a whistle blower, and (4) the use of curtains. During 1960s and 1970s, Jonggan remained prevalent. Hence, from the 1980s to the present, Jonggan has become unknown, especially among millennials, and even it is performed, it has significant transformation. Recently, Jonggan is often referred as Jongset (Jonggan Kaset), indicating that it is performed using cassette recordings, thus losing the essence of traditional musical instruments. This shift raises the question, how is the musical structure of pantun accompaniment, including melody and rhythm, in Jonggan performance art? This study conducted a qualitative method with an ethnomusicological approach. Data was directly collected from recent Jonggan performances. Understanding the musical structure of pantun accompaniment will enhance the preservation and organization of traditional musical knowledge. Furthermore, Jonggan could evolve into a culturally based performance industry with economic benefits (creative economy). Finally, up to this moment, Western aesthetic formality (as it seems) cannot be shaken in its position in the study of art in Indonesia. An alternate approach to teaching that places more emphasis on the learning process of the students than the instructional component of the lesson is the project method. It focuses on having faith in the kids and not trying to force a particular learning style on them. The reason why this model applied at STIAB Smaratungga: students do not have confident and motivation, the students are not active and the class is lecturers’ centred. Almost all kids have trouble understanding what is being stated when someone speaks. 2) Pronunciation of the English language is too quick and confusing. 3) Misunderstandings of meaning frequently occur in conversations. Each curve of the shape and color selection that appears has a meaning and character education value that is very sacred. Gorga Batak Toba has a characteristic shape and color that are not owned by other carvings, so this becomes a cultural heritage that must be preserved by the next generation of this ethnicity. However, along with the fact that this is inversely proportional, the younger generation today considers regional culture to be outdated, slangy, and conservative. Western culture is slowly gaining interest, and the nation's own culture is being eroded and forgotten. Based on the data showing that the number of young people from the Millennial Generation to Post-Gen Z reached 60.46%, or around 163.37% of the total Indonesian population, it is clear that the younger generation plays a very important role in the preservation of ancestral culture. The purpose of this research is to introduce and deepen the younger generation's understanding of the cultural heritage of the Gorga Toba Batak. The next goal is to reveal the values contained in Gorga Batak Toba. Deciphering the scores based on the test’s official descriptors is also intricate. These two problems hinder self-evaluations and improvements. Hence, this study examined grammatical and ungrammatical clauses based on subject-verb (S + V) structures in IELTS writing performances completed by Indonesia’s Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) Affirmation Scholarship awardees during test simulations and the ratios of these two types of clauses according to the simulation score variation. To do so, we did archival research by obtaining data from teachers’ documents. Initially, a qualitative method was employed to identify the clauses as either grammatical or ungrammatical. This was followed by a quantitative method to discover the clauses’ numbers, including their proportions via an Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test. The results showed that the grammatical clauses exhibit diverse structures, influenced by the test requirements and participants’ needs to express their ideas. Conversely, the ungrammatical clauses stem from the writers’ limited English proficiency and test pressures. The grammatical clauses outnumber the ungrammatical ones by approximately threefold. The lower proportions of ungrammatical clauses correlate with the lower scores. However, the higher proportions of grammatical clauses do not necessarily equate to the higher scores. The statistical correlation between the clause proportions and score variation is confirmed. This study ultimately enhances learning, evaluation, and improvement of the test skill, as well as understanding the descriptors and aiding the score prediction for learners and educators.
Muhammad Adi Pratama, Aris Munandar Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3767 Thu, 08 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 MAINTAINING CULTURAL IDENTITY THROUGH GONG WANING IN MAUMERE SOCIETY https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3768
One of the traditional musical instruments originating from Maumere, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, is the Gong Waning. On the one hand, this music is very necessary in tradition, so this also makes it still exist, and on the other hand, this music is experiencing decline due to the decreasing number of players, so this also has an impact on regeneration which is increasingly worrying about its sustainability. In this regard, some people who care are trying to make this music more present, so that apart from being brought to life in traditional performances, it is also brought out of tradition, for example for artistic performances by certain groups at certain events. This acculturation shows that Gendang Gong music has social and cultural values. The social value is seen in relation to the owner of the culture, where this music has a social function and meaning, while the cultural value is seen in value based on its practical value/function in musical activities as a whole - both within custom and outside custom. The present study examined English grammatical errors in English as a Foreign Language students in synchronous online learning presentations and discussions. The participants in this study were second-year students in the postgraduate program at the English study program of Bengkulu University. The data were obtained during their presentation and discussion about the predetermined material via the Zoom platform. The Zoom meetings were recorded and transcribed to identify grammatical errors. The surface structure taxonomy was adopted to examine utterance errors, categorized into four types: misformation, misordering, addition, and omission. The Linguistics classification approach was also utilized to display in-depth data about the grammatical errors. According to the findings, omission was the most common type of grammatical error indicated, followed by addition, misformation, and misordering. Interestingly, in linguistics categorizations, the errors were identified in word form and verb form as the most common errors students commit in their online presentations and discussions, followed by subject-verb agreement and plural forms. The study suggested that students' grammatical errors were likely due to carelessness, as they were expected to be familiar with these grammar concepts. Conversely, no grammatical mistakes were detected in the use of prepositions, articles, tenses, and questions during the presentation and discussion by postgraduate students. This indicates that the graduate students did not have problems with these aspects of English grammar.
Septri Haryanti Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3784 Thu, 08 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 GALOMBAN DANCE IN THE CONTEXT OF SOCIAL CULTURE CHANGE IN THE CITY OF PADANG https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3786
An object can only be a work of art as long as there are social relations that place it in that position, and social relations are never sterile from ideology and political-economic interests, so the autonomy of art is a figment. The study aims to uncover how teachers employ inquiry-based instruction to engage students in speaking activities and identify patterns of classroom interactions that encourage active speaking. The research includes observations and interviews with two English teachers, focusing on their methods to enhance speaking skills among 18 multicultural students. The findings indicate that teachers primarily use inquiry-based instruction, incorporating memory, cognitive, metacognitive, affective, and social strategies to encourage student participation. Identified interaction patterns include Teacher-Student, Student-Teacher, and Student-Student interactions, with Teacher-Student interactions being the most frequent. This study highlights the importance of inquiry-based instruction in fostering active speaking interactions and underscores the critical role of teachers in creating a dynamic and interactive classroom environment to enhance English speaking proficiency. Findings revealed that the teachers effectively promoted three types of interactions: teacher-student (71%), student-teacher (17%), and student-student (12%). The study concludes that English teachers play a crucial role in enhancing students' speaking interactions through inquiry-based instruction.
Lalita Vistari, Issy Yuliasri, Widhiyanto Widhiyanto, Yuliati Yuliati Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3791 Thu, 08 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 PRIMARY SCHOOL ENGLISH EDUCATION IN THE AGE OF INDUSTRY 4.0: TACKLING CHALLENGES, EXPANDING HORIZONS https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3793
This paper elaborates on the existence and dynamics of English language learning at the basic education level and its relevance to the era of disruption 4.0. With research methods of literature study type and descriptive-analytical techniques, this paper wants to describe research problems with the help of literature data from relevant writings, papers, journals, and scientific articles and books. This study explains several things that must be prepared for English language learning in the 4.0 era: infrastructure and technology, curriculum and learning methods, qualified teachers, teaching materials and resources, and parental support. Furthermore, the findings obtained are that opportunities that can be targeted include more comprehensive access to language learning resources, interactive and engaging learning experiences, the availability of global connectivity and language exchange, the availability of digital applications for language practice, and providing a practical evaluation and feedback system. Meanwhile, the challenges faced are uneven access to technology, uneven technical competence of users, language barriers, limited focus and attention span of students, and digital security risks.
M Bambang Purwanto, Issy Yuliasri, Widhiyanto Widhiyanto, Fahrur Rozi Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3793 Thu, 08 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 PHILOSOPHICAL BASIS OF ARTS EDUCATION https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3795
Philosophy of art or often called “aesthetics”, since ancient times until the Modern century, even Contemporary in studying art from a philosophical point of view, the ratio is often dominant. Some philosophers even argue that art does not belong solely to taste, but also to the ratio. This shows that art is truly human. It was Descrates who said, “cogito ergo sum”: Kant, “critique der urteriskraft”: Langer, “symbolic logic”. All of them point out that methodical skepticism establishes a balance of the rational and the empirical in a level of consciousness that includes the creation of symbolic forms and human feelings in order to create art. Philosophy and art are creative communication, but their means and ends are different. Philosophy is: the search for truth, while art is more about creation and enjoying value. Even if art uses language as in literature, this use is not the same in philosophy. The purpose of art is to evoke aesthetic emotions, while in philosophy, language is a tool to speak the truth. Through the philosophy of art, the understanding of art will be richer. Many things can be questioned. However, the question as a challenge is that philosophy of art is not just art history or music history. When we struggle with the axiology of art, our minds are challenged with the question “What about the epistemology of art” Is it possible?” Looking at the premises as stated, we can conclude that the existence of a philosophy of art is something legitimate; philosophical thoughts about art are a counterpoint and at the same time so that art does not develop naively.
Naomi Diah Budi Setyaningrum, M Jazuli, Hartono Hartono, Malarsih Malarsih Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3795 Thu, 08 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 IMPLEMENTATION OF CHILDREN'S SONGS IN EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING: DESCRIPTIVE STUDY IN SIDOARJO (INDONESIA) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3797
This research aims to look at the practice of implementing children's songs in learning at early childhood education institutions in Sidoarjo, Indonesia. This subject asks students to be active in reading of any text types categorized into critical genres. Students are introduced to steps of critical reading which include pre-, during and after reading. The aim of this research was to evaluate Lesson Plans in Critical Reading. The subjects were the third students of English Literature. The research used qualitative. I broke down all parts in lesson plan, such as course learning outcome, graduate learning outcome, and course description. I saw there was an importance thing in learning Critical Reading among third semester students of English Literature because this subject showed the awareness of critical reading skills and strategies which include identifying texts’ structure; annotating, outlining, summarizing, and reviewing texts; distinguishing main and supporting ideas as well as facts and opinions in the texts; analyzing writer’s purpose and point of view as well as tone and attitude in the texts; and conducting rhetorical analysis of the texts. All of those steps are intended to help students uncover the hidden messages of any types of critical genres. Although the subject was important for students, there was imbalance between graduate learning outcome and course learning outcome. To solve its imbalance, I gave the knowledge about the reader response approach among students by lecturing and answering some questions. The result showed by giving questions about the reader response approach, students increased knowledge about this subject.
Maria Johana Ari Widayanti, Januarius Mujiyanto, Dwi Rukmini, Hendi Pratama Copyright (c) 2024 Proceedings of Fine Arts, Literature, Language, and Education https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3805 Thu, 08 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 DIMENSIONS OF HOTS IN THE "MARDIKA BASA LAN SASTRA JAWA" TEXTBOOK FOR GRADE VII https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/icoella/article/view/3785
Higher-order thinking skills are closely related to cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, forming an integrated part of the teaching and learning process. This article discusses cultural acculturation in Semarangan bridal make-up, a unique tradition that developed in Semarang, Central Java. As an important port city since the colonial era, Semarang is a meeting place for Javanese, Chinese, Arab and Dutch cultures, all of which contribute to the aesthetics and meaning of local bridal make-up. Elements of Javanese culture are seen in the use of the bun, while Chinese culture is reflected in the choice of bright colors and good luck symbols as well as the bride's name, namely "encik". The influence of Arab and Islamic culture appears in the name of the groom, namely "manten kaji", while Dutch culture is seen in the modern techniques and materials in the wedding dress as well as the crown as a head accessory. This acculturation not only creates a unique aesthetic but also enriches the cultural identity of the people of Semarang, reflecting a long history of harmonious cultural interaction. Semarangan bridal makeup is a symbol of rich cultural and historical heritage that continues to be preserved by the younger generation. These differences include using masks as manifestations, means of worship, burial equipment, dance clothing attributes, and other purposes. Masks are considered carvings that reflect a person's characteristics. In Malang, East Java, Indonesia, there is the Malang Mask tradition, which has become an icon of the city and is inspired by the story of Panji. Some masks are kept in museums, and others are the property of the Malang Mask Dance. The Panji Museum and Kampung Topeng are some places that continue to preserve the history of Malang Masks so that they do not become extinct. Unfortunately, these places do not provide complete information about the character of each mask, so visitors sometimes need clarification. Therefore, researchers are trying to develop an application that can present infographics about the character of each mask with philosophical meanings—the development method adopted by the Borg & Gall development model. The Borg and Gall development model has ten steps for implementing research and development (RnD) strategies. However, in the context of this research, the number of steps was simplified to 7, considering the limited research time. The result is an augmented reality-based Panji Story Mask infographic application that depicts dancers' masks and costumes and their philosophical meaning. It is hoped that the character depiction of each mask will be a role model for the younger generation so they can know which traits are good and which traits are bad.
