The challenges faced by arts and culture teachers in Rembang Regency are limited literacy and skills in vocal arrangement, resulting in monotonous and uninnovative music instruction. This community service program utilizes a participatory approach through outreach, workshops, and mentoring, focusing on basic music theory, harmony, and interlocking techniques adapted from the gamelan tradition. The results demonstrate an increase in teachers' understanding and skills in developing traditional song vocal arrangements for both intracurricular and extracurricular learning, while simultaneously strengthening their role in preserving the Indonesian musical heritage. This article emphasizes that strengthening teacher capacity not only impacts the quality of pedagogy but also contributes to the sustainability of local culture through education.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4672 Gending Dolanan as a Form of Introduction to Gamelan Learning Based on Local Content 2025-11-02T00:53:07+07:00 Gandung Joko Srimoko [email protected] Dani Nur Saputra [email protected] Saryanto Saryanto [email protected] Irma Febryani [email protected] Tjut Etty Retnowati [email protected]
This reserach aims to examine the role of gending dolanan as a form of gamelan learning based on local content in schools. The background of this study stems from the importance of gamelan as a national cultural heritage that needs to be introduced early on through a simple, enjoyable approach that is appropriate to the cultural context of the students. Gending dolanan was chosen because it has a simple musical structure, repetitive rhythmic patterns, and straightforward lyrics that resonate with children's lives. As such, gending dolanan is considered effective as an initial bridge before students move on to more complex forms of gending. The research method employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with research subjects including music teachers, elementary and junior high school students, and gamelan practitioners. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using an interactive model through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Triangulation of sources and techniques was used to maintain data validity. The results of the study indicate that the application of gending dolanan in gamelan learning can increase students' interest and understanding of the basics of gamelan. Additionally, gending dolanan contributes to instilling cultural values such as cooperation, unity, and discipline. This learning approach aligns with the objectives of locally-based education, which focuses not only on musical skills but also on strengthening cultural identity. The study concludes that gending dolanan can serve as an effective strategy for introducing gamelan in schools while also contributing to the preservation of traditional culture.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4673 Usage of Folk Songs in the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5): reviewed from Cultural Literacy and Music Literacy 2025-11-02T01:05:05+07:00 Hana Permata Heldisari [email protected] Afrizal Yudha Setiawan [email protected]
This study examines the impact of including folk songs within the Pancasila student profile strengthening project (P5) initiative on students' comprehension of music and culture. As concerns grow regarding education's disconnection from local culture, incorporating local knowledge into music instruction is an astute method for aiding kids in developing their individuality and character. This study investigates the impact of including folk songs in classroom musical projects on students' comprehension of cultural values and musical abilities. We employed a quantitative approach utilising a quasi-experimental design. Sixty students from a senior high school in Yogyakarta were divided into two groups: an experimental group utilising folk songs and a control group employing popular songs. The treatment comprised four sessions dedicated to researching, evaluating, arranging, and performing music. Validated questionnaires were used to gather data on cultural and musical literacy, followed by the application of Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) to analyse the results. The findings indicated that learning via folk songs significantly influenced both cultural literacy (sig = 0.025) and music literacy (sig = 0.011). Wilks' Lambda further corroborated that the effect occurred simultaneously (p = 0.027). The findings indicate that including local music in project-based learning enhances students' cultural awareness, musical proficiency, and character development, aligning with the objectives of the P5 curriculum. This study demonstrates folk songs as a culturally appropriate pedagogical tool that emphasises character development.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4674 The Sociology of Ska Music in Grisness Culture: Expression, Creation, and Appreciation in Arts Education 2025-11-02T01:21:22+07:00 Kidung Sukma Asmarani [email protected] Hafid Zuhdan Bahtiar [email protected]
The development of popular music, particularly the ska genre, has given rise to unique and contextual expressions of youth culture. One notable phenomenon is Grisness Culture, a ska band founded by a group of university friends in Semarang in 2015, which has since evolved into an active player in the local music ecosystem. This study aims to analyze the expression, creation, and appreciation of Grisness Culture’s music, while linking it to Pierre Bourdieu’s sociological concepts of habitus, capital, and field. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that although Grisness Culture is structured as a band, it functions as a cultural agent within the ska music field, shaped by a habitus rooted in social and campus cultural backgrounds. They mobilize social, cultural, and symbolic capital to strengthen their position in both the local and national music arenas. Their artistic practices reflect the dimensions of expression, creation, and appreciation, while simultaneously fostering character values such as cooperation, creativity, responsibility, and courage. This study recommends that formal arts education should be more open to community-based practices in order to build contextual, inclusive, and transformative learning.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4675 Vocal-Conductor Training to Strengthen Patriotism of Elementary School Teachers 2025-11-02T01:41:23+07:00 Selamat Triadil Saragih [email protected] Dian Herdiati [email protected] Gandung Joko Srimoko [email protected] Saryanto Saryanto [email protected] Irma Febryani [email protected]
Background: The development of the national compulsory song is actually a medium to train the love of the homeland in children. The problem in learning Art in Elementary School is caused by the large number of elementary school teachers who come from disciplines that have nothing to do with art. Objective: With a more specific objective, this study seeks to: (1) identify the impact resulting from vocal-conductor training on improving teachers' musical competence, (2) measure the impact of such training on the internalization of patriotic values through national compulsory songs. Methods: This research approach uses a qualitative approach with case study methods and Participatory Action Research (PAR) to 30 participants of SD IT Nurul Harapan Baru teachers in Bekasi. Data collection was carried out by participatory observation, interview deepening, and document analysis validated by source triangulation. Results: Based on the data that has been processed, the results of the study show: (1) There is a very significant increase in the technical ability of vocals and conductors of teachers (85%), (2) Changes in the teaching of national songs from routine to more valuable teaching, (3) Strengthening of the four pillars of nationalism in learning: lyrics, musical techniques, habituation, and school vision. Conclusion: There is a significant impact on art-based character education from the training model used. The integration recommendation suggests that there should be an addition to the PPG for elementary school teachers including learning while the delivery is collaborative.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4676 Socio-Cultural Transformation through Modern Qasidah Music in Semarang City 2025-11-02T01:52:06+07:00 Kusrina Widjajantie [email protected] Sunarto Sunarto [email protected] Udi Utomo [email protected] Eko Sugiarto [email protected]
Modern qasidah music in Semarang has experienced remarkable growth and continues to influence the dynamics of urban Muslim society. This study explores how modern qasidah extends beyond the scope of religious entertainment to function as a platform for cultural acculturation, social interaction, and value transmission. Using a sociological framework of Islamic music, the research highlights that the study affirms that qasidah strengthens Islamic identity while negotiating the relationship between tradition and modernity. The study also emphasizes the inclusive social spaces created by qasidah performances that bring together diverse audiences in urban settings. Data were obtained through literature review, participant observation of festivals and community performances, and documentation of young people’s enculturation processes, including artists’ adaptation strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings indicate that modern qasidah operates as a performative cultural practice that blends religious values, Javanese cultural identity, and mechanisms of social transformation. This study affirms the position of Qasidah Modern as both a medium for cultural education and a resilient tradition, offering valuable contributions to the global discourse on contemporary Islamic art and urban religiosity.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4677 Revitalizing Gembyung Art through Arts Education in Elementary Schools Based on Local Wisdom 2025-11-02T02:07:06+07:00 Saryanto Saryanto [email protected] Gandung Joko Srimoko [email protected] Irma Febryanti [email protected] Didin Supriadi [email protected] Dani Nur Saputra [email protected] Dewi Mutiara Fatimah [email protected]
Gembyung art is one of the traditional cultural heritages of the Sundanese people, possessing high aesthetic, spiritual, and social values. Its existence today is declining due to a lack of regeneration and the increasing influence of global culture penetrating even the remotest parts of the country. This study aims to explore strategies for revitalizing Gembyung art through its integration into elementary school art education based on local wisdom. The methods used include a qualitative approach with techniques such as literature review, observation, and interviews with teachers, local artists, and students. The research findings indicate that incorporating Gembyung art into the elementary school arts and culture curriculum enhances students' appreciation of traditional art and fosters pride in local cultural identity. Contextual, participatory learning programs involving local art practitioners have proven effective in transmitting cultural values to the younger generation. Thus, art education based on local wisdom serves as a strategic tool in the ongoing efforts to preserve and revitalize Gembyung art.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4678 Hand Sign-Based Instructional Model for Melodic Perception: Enhancing Elementary Teacher’s Pedagogy 2025-11-02T02:20:27+07:00 Irma Febryani [email protected] Gandung Joko Srimoko [email protected] Selamat Triadil Saragih [email protected] Dian Herdiati [email protected] Saryanto Saryanto [email protected]
Enhancing teacher's teaching skills at the elementary level needs creative methodologies, especially for the melodica instrument, which is taught conventionally to the students. Kodály's hand sign system presents a comprehensive approach combining visual, physical, and auditory learning components, but the implementation of this method in Indonesia is limited. This research creates an instructional framework utilizing manual signs to enhance students' aural recognition of melodies while assessing the effectiveness of the method in developing teachers' teaching capabilities. A problem identified among elementary school teachers teaching music as a subject is their low ability to creatively teach melodic concepts through the melodica. This qualitative study employed educational design research with three phases, analysis through focus group discussions (FGDs), development of a prototype model based on Kodály's theory, and expert validation testing and limited testing in three classes. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and analysis of lesson plan documents. This method is effective as an innovative pedagogical framework that optimizes hand-signing for melodica instruction, with a dual impact on teacher professionalism and students' musical literacy. As a recommendation, this model integration can be developed as a teaching material in the Indonesian curriculum.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4679 Development of Gambang Semarang Instrument in an Effort to Digitalize Instrument Based on Virtual Studio Technology (VST) 2025-11-02T02:38:21+07:00 Mochammad Usman Wafa [email protected] Syahrul Syah Sinaga [email protected] R. Agustinus Arum Eka Nugraha [email protected]
The traditional music of Gambang Semarang currently lacks sufficient space to develop. This is due to its high cost, the large number of players, and the need for space to accommodate the instruments. With technological advancements, the development of media for creating music based on traditional instruments can be achieved through various methods. One such method is the digitalization of Gambang Semarang instruments using Virtual Studio Technology (VST). The development of the Gambang Semarang Virtual Instrument, aimed at digitizing instruments based on Virtual Studio Technology (VST), will be conducted using a research and development (R&D) approach adapted from the spiral model research design (Cennamo and Kalk, 2005). The five research stages are adapted into three main stages: (1) product development; (2) demonstration; and (3) delivery. This research was conducted over a period of nine months. Therefore, the research stages include: (1) context analysis and formulation of objectives; (2) determination of alternative solutions; (3) product development, including a Gambang Semarang VST and user guide; (4) product validation involving experts; (5) trials in real situations; (6) product delivery.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4680 Revitalizing Gambang Semarang in Education: A Triple Helix Strategy for Strengthening the Creative Economy within the SDGs Framework 2025-11-02T02:53:30+07:00 Eko Raharjo [email protected] Dian Herdiati [email protected] Restu Lanjari [email protected]
This study examines the integration of Gambang Semarang, a traditional musical heritage of Central Java, into cultural arts education to support cultural preservation and creative economy empowerment. The research addresses the urgency of sustaining cultural traditions in the era of globalization while aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (quality education) and Goal 8 (decent work and economic growth). Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design, the study involved Semarang City students, teachers, principals, artists, and creative economy practitioners. Data were collected through observation, interviews, surveys, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings show that integrating Gambang Semarang enhances students’ cultural appreciation, strengthens local identity, and creates opportunities for creative entrepreneurship through performances, digital content, and community engagement. Supporting factors include teacher and student enthusiasm, active art communities, and policy support, while limitations involve a lack of instruments, teaching modules, and teacher expertise. This study highlights the relevance of the Triple Helix model linking education, cultural communities, and government in developing sustainable education and creative economy ecosystems. It offers a replicable model for other regions, demonstrating how traditional arts can function as educational resources and drivers of creative economic growth.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC) https://proceeding.unnes.ac.id/ICOMAC/article/view/4681 Impact of Audio Visual Media on Elementary Teachers’ Self Efficacy in Islamic Schools 2025-11-02T03:19:07+07:00 Dian Herdiati [email protected] Selamat Triadil Saragih [email protected] Irma Febryani [email protected] Egidius Bagas Pinasthiko Aji [email protected] Nisa Rahma Puspita [email protected]
Teacher self-efficacy is a crucial factor in the success of music education in elementary schools. The use of multimedia technology, particularly audiovisual media, in singing instruction is considered a potential solution for enhancing teachers' confidence in their pedagogical competencies, especially in integrated Islamic curriculum-based schools. This study aims to examine the impact of integrating audiovisual media on improving teacher self-efficacy at SDIT (Sekolah Dasar Islam Terpadu) Nurul Islam Harapan Baru, Bekasi. This study employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. This design was selected due to limited access to an adequate sample for a control group. The research sample consisted of 30 teachers selected using total sampling techniques. Data were collected through a validated self-efficacy questionnaire. The researchers performed data analysis using a paired sample t-test to determine the significant change in teacher self-efficacy scores before and after the intervention, assuming the data were normally distributed. This study is expected to provide an empirical basis for developing teacher training programs and designing school policies that involve the use of technology to enhance teachers' pedagogical skills, particularly in the context of Islamic education.
2025-08-29T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Proceeding of The International Conference on Music and Culture (ICOMAC)
