EMPOWERMENT OF CORN TANK GROUP IN WONOHARJO VILLAGE, SUB-DISTRIC KEMUSU, BOYOLALI DISTRICT

Abstract

In Wonoharjo Village corn commodities can promise profits, this is because demand continues to increase over time. However, corn commodities have not been processed into foods of high economic value. Maize harvest is only consumed and sold to middlemen at a relatively low price of Rp 2,300 to Rp 2,700 every kilogram. Corn crop as one of the mainstay crops for the farmer group has not been developed optimally. Farming activities stop during the dry season due to lack of water. The farmers have not utilized the Kedung Ombo Reservoir as a means of irrigating the land, in addition to the use of organic fertilizer is still lacking, making the land worse (often harvest failure, due to disease attacks). Agricultural waste and livestock manure in Wonoharjo Village have also not been utilized. The objectives of this activity are: (1) to utilize the o ‘bero’ land that is not planted during the dry season with a demonstration plot of corn crops: (2) utilizing agricultural waste and livestock manure into organic fertilizer (3) overcoming crop failure with the application of organic fertilizer; (4) processing corn into tortillas (5) improving group management. The method used is education and facilitation. Education is done by: (1) providing counseling to farmer groups on how to cultivate corn that is good so that the quality and quantity increases; (2) the introduction of water suction machines, organic fertilizer grinding machines; (3) training in processing corn into tortillas and their packaging; (4) business management training.
