Abstract

Abstrak. Sebagai teanaga pendidik, guru diharapkan mampu mengembangkan dan meningkatkan kemampuan profesionalismenya dalam penguatan sumber daya manusia unggul berpendidikan pada era digital. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui factor-faktor yang menghambat guru mengikuti program pengembangan profesi guru (PPG). Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mengedarkan kuesioner kepada 50 guru bahasa inggris di parepare Sulawesi-Selatan. Pertanyaan tertutup (Closed-Ended Questionnaire) dengan dua pilihan diadaptasi dari Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS, 2018). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pembagian waktu dan biaya menjadi factor utama yang dihadapi guru untuk mengikuti PPG. Sebagian guru mengatakan bahwa jadwal kegiatan berbenturan dengan jadwal mengajar mereka. Sekitar 8% dukungan dari sekolah dan tanggung jawab rumah tangga dan ketidak sesuaian dengan kompetensi yang dibutuhkan menjadi faktor lain yang menghalangi guru untuk mengikuti PPG. Kegiatan PPG diharapkan dapat memberikan kesadaran kepada guru tentang apa yang mereka butuhkan dan apa yang sesuai dengan keahlian mereka dalam meningkatkan profesionalisme mereka sebagai guru.

Abstract: As a educators, teachers need to develop and improve their professionalism in digital era This study aims to investigate constraints that senior high school English teachers face when developing their professionalism. The data was collected through questionnaire distributed to 50 English teachers in Parepare South Sulawesi. The closed- ended questionnaire with two options was adapted from TALIS (2018). It was found that time and payments were the constraints that most participants face. More than half of the participants agreed that professional development conflicted with their work schedule and half of the participants acknowledged that the payment to attain professional development was too high and that they could not afford it. Meanwhile the other four items were not considered as constraints. There were only about eight percent of the participants who thought that pre-requisites, lack of employer support, lack of time due to family responsibilities and the lack of suitable professional development were not the constraints on their professional development. Teacher professional development program can be applied in preparing teachers to be aware of what they want and what suitable for them in developing their professionalism and career as a teachers.
