Paragliding, an extreme air sport, is a field that thrives on the collaborative support of science and technology (S&T) innovation to ensure the safety and performance of athletes. However, comprehensive studies on trends and directions of research development in this field are still limited. This study, a collaborative effort, aims to map trends and thematic maps of S&T innovation in paragliding based on Scopus-indexed publications from 1989 to 2025. The method employed is a quantitative descriptive approach with bibliometric analysis. Data were obtained through Boolean searches in Scopus and analyzed using VOSViewer to visualize the interrelationships between keywords. The results show a significant increase in publications over the last two decades, particularly with the advancement of digital technology, biomechanical sensors, and data-driven safety systems. The most productive contributors came from Europe, particularly Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, with a dominance in the field of aviation medicine. Thematic analysis revealed five main clusters: safety and injury risk, body physiology, participant participation and experience, trends in paragliding activity, and innovations in aviation technology. This study, a global endeavor, concludes that there has been a shift in research focus from medical aspects to the application of applied science and technology to improve safety, performance, and experience in paragliding, while also opening up opportunities for interdisciplinary research in the future.
