THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS' CRITICAL THINKING ABILITY AND READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS AT UNDERGRADUATE LEVELS
Abstract
The objective of this study was to know whether or not there is any interaction between the critical thinking abilities of undergraduate students and their capacity for comprehending the text. The sample was 36 English Education department students at a private university in East Java, Indonesia. The reading comprehension test based on the TOEFL proficiency test and critical thinking test were used to learn more about the relation between critical thinking and reading comprehension. According to the Pearson Product Moment association, the two variables had a significant association. According to the findings, there was a strong and positive correlation between the different levels of critical thinking capacity that learners possessed and their reading comprehension level. On the other hand, it was discovered that students with a high degree of critical thinking did much better on the reading comprehension test than students with lower levels. The findings indicate that critical thinking skills are vital in comprehending the text and may have valuable implications for the learners.
